The Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) is a statutory body, established in terms of the Health Professions Act no. 56 of 1974 with a mandate to protect the public, all consumers of health care services, and to provide guidance on educational, professional and ethical issues to our practitioners.

We constantly strive towards achieving our vision - "Quality health care standards for all", by enhancing the quality and developing strategic policy frameworks for the effective co-ordination and guidance of our twelve professional boards in:

  • Setting health care standards for training and discipline in the professions registered with Council;
  • Ensuring ongoing professional competence; and
  • Fostering compliance with those standards.
