THE PRIZES AND AWARDS OF OTASA

The current prizes and awards of OTASA are:

ALBIE SACHS OTASA AWARD

Purpose of the award is to honour a practitioner or practitioners working in the field of occupational therapy, where a significant contribution is being made in the lives of people with disabilities

Criteria

  • Assisting persons with disabilities (PWD’s) to live as they choose to live
  • Facilitating participation in the life of PWD’s in their communities
  • Facilitating PWD’s to return to the life activities they value, regardless of their disability
  • Ensuring the implementation of choices and dignity in interaction
  • Finding practical solutions to functional problems
  • Making a sustainable impact

Nominations will be sought from practitioners in the field, from users of Occupational Therapy services and from fellow disciplines as well as the general public

The award will consist of a cash prize, a beaded trophy and a signed copy of the Albie Sachs autobiography "Soft vengeance of a freedom fighter".

OTASA/LIFE ESIDIMENI AWARD

Purpose of the award is:
For best research in psychiatry /mental health

VONA DU TOIT MEMORIAL AWARD & LECTURE

Purpose:
The Vona du Toit award is a very prestigious award for Occupational Therapist who excels in the profession. The object of this memorial lecture is to honour the late Vona du Toit, who was a pioneer in the development of OT, encouraged research and promoted training for the practice of OT. The first lecture was presented in 1976.

  • Nominations received by the OT Office will be presented at the Council Meeting where it will be ratified - the presentation of the actual lecture will be the following year during congress

VONA & MARIE DU TOIT FOUNDATION STUDENT PRIZE

Purpose
The Marie du Toit Award for the best undergraduate research project in occupational therapy is an annual award presented by the Vona & Marie du Toit Foundation.
