DIVISION OF OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY

Department of HEALTH AND REHABILITATION SCIENCES

The University of Cape Town and the Department of Health of the Provincial Government of the Western Cape invite applications for two Lecturer posts in the Division of Occupational Therapy - one position will be permanent and the other a two-year contract.

The successful appointees:

  •  Will be expected to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and administration, research supervision and clinical service.
  • Should have supervised occupational therapy students in practice learning.
  • Should have a Master’s qualification (with a strong research component) in occupational therapy
  • Will be expected to participate in divisional, departmental and faculty leadership structures

 Requirements for the permanent position:

  •  Experience as an Occupational Therapist with demonstrable expertise in the field of work practice.
  • The ability to conduct independent research.
  • A comprehensive view of vocational rehabilitation services across all levels of care, as well as commitment to the Primary Health Care philosophy.

 Requirements for two year contract position:

  •  Experience as an Occupational Therapist with demonstrable expertise in the field of mental health.
  • A comprehensive view of mental health care services across all levels of care as well as being committed to the Primary Health Care philosophy.

GERATEC requires the services of an Occupational Therapist as Manager of ACVV House Ina Rens in Paarl. This dementia unit with a capacity for 16 will be the first and only of its kind which will provide, within the Eden Alternative, a multi sensory environment where persons with dementia can live with dignity and experience personal growth.

Skills Required:
- The suitable candidate will be instrumental in the creation of this unique environment with the support of a multi disciplinary team. The person must furthermore be very creative and have  the necessary business knowledge to manage the administration, staff, health and safety.
- Experience in psycho-geriatrics, person-centered care and/or dementia will be a recommendation.

West Coast
I am an Occupational Therapist managing a general practice in the West Coast.
I work alongside physiotherapits and a psychiatrist on the hospital grounds and I see a variety of clients including hand injuries, paediatrics (including sensory integration), physical rehab and functional capacity evaluations.

I am in need of a locum therapist to assist me part-time.
The option also exists to take over the practice as from middle 2012.

Are you currently working as a locum or working in a part-time job?  Are you looking for a career in the financial services sector?

The life insurance industry (through the Academy of the Association of Savings and Investment South Africa - ASISA) is running a training course for aspiring underwriters.  The course will cover subjects such as anatomy and physiology, financial underwriting, occupational and avocational aspects of underwriting, insurance products, an overview of how the insurance industry functions and various life skills applicable to the insurance industry.

There are two full scholarships available to attend this course.  The course will run for one week each month from September 2011 to March 2012, excluding December.  There may be an opportunity to do an internship at a life insurance company in the 3 weeks between courses.
