Litigation is costly, complex, and often limits public access to justice. To address these challenges, the South African Law Reform Commission (SALRC) has been working on a Draft Mediation Bill since 2019. The Advisory Committee, led by Prof Debbie Collier since 24 February 2024, has released Project 94 Discussion Paper 168 for public comment, proposing a general mediation law for commercial, civil, and community disputes.
